All roads lead to Peatzeria – road trips through Scotland
Taking a road trip through Scotland is one of those experiences that will live with you forever. Stunning glens, beautiful cities, majestic lochs – it’s all here waiting for you. And it’s never the same – choose a different starting point and your adventure will be different each time. We’ve selected three itineraries as an example of how you can wind your way towards Peatzeria on the Isle of Islay. Here, you can choose from a selection of delicious pizzas, all cooked to order and offering ingredients sourced from our surroundings. Inverness to Islay
Start in Inverness and explore Scotland’s most northerly city. Then hit the road and drive alongisde Loch Ness whist keeping an eye out for its elusive resident. Whether you drive on the north or south side of the loch you will have plenty to visit. The north offers a stopover at Urquhart Castle, whilst the south offers a stop at Dores Beach where you might get to chat to renowned Nessie watcher, Steve Feltham.
Continue down past Fort Augustus towards Fort William. This is a popular town for walkers, as it is sat at the foot of the UK’s tallest mountain, Ben Nevis. Before heading down to Oban, take a detour to see the awesome Glenfinnan Viaduct. You might even see the Hogwarts Express running along it!
And then, arrive in Oban for your ferry over to Inverness. But don’t be in a rush – Oban is a beautiful town with great views from McCaig’s Tower and plenty of places to enjoy a bite to eat. But don’t fill your belly up too much, because Peatzeria is just a short ferry ride and drive away on Islay!
Edinburgh to Islay
Edinburgh is a stunning city which attracts millions of visitors annually. It’s ancient buildings, winding streets and regular festivals make it an attractive destination all year. It’s a great starting place for a road rip to Peatzeria because there’s so much beauty and history to find on the way.
Just outside Edinburgh is Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots, Although now a ruin, it’s a stunning building to look at, and has a lovely walk around a pond outside.
Then continue on to Stirling, another of Scotland’s most historic cities. It used to be the capital, and its castle is a great place to spend an afternoon. Don’t forget to take a trip up to the top of the Wallace Monument too (shouting ‘Freedom’ from the top is strictly optional!)
On your way, take a drive to Loch Lomond. Situated within one of Scotland’s most popular national parks, a ferry journey along these waters is a must-do experience. And then continue towards Inveraray and then Kennacraig where you will get a ferry over to Islay, and complete your journey with a pizza from Peatzeria, the most westward pizza restaurant in Scotland!
Skye to Islay
For those starting on the Isle of Skye, you’ll experience some magical moments on this route. Once you’ve fully explored this island, take off over the Skye Bridge, stopping at Eilean Donan Castle. As iconic as it is photographed, it’s a beautiful landmark. Then head towards Glen Shiel, as peaks tower above you and wildlife runs past you as you go. This route also takes you through Fort William, and as you head towards Mallaig why not stop at Kilmartin Glen? Ancient standing stones and burial cairns show how this has been a home for people for thousands of years. And then, take your ferry to Islay and grab one of our delicious pizzas, using seasonal ingredients, much of which was caught, grown or reared locally.
