Why visit Islay?
If you’re looking to taste fresh and seasonal produce but with a twist, then a visit to Peatzerian on Islay is for you. We’re open daily from 12pm to 3.30pm, then 5pm to 9pm. Islay also has plenty to offer every visitor, and if it is a retreat you are after then it will be no problem finding a solitary spot with stunning sea views all to yourself. Our beaches and coastline will quickly blow the cobwebs away and help you feel reinvigorated and at one with yourself. This is somewhere you can fully unwind and rediscover yourself.
When you are out and about, you’ll probably come across some of our local wildlife. In the sky you might spot a golden eagle soaring overhead. The hills could be hiding a stunning red deer stag of a beautiful Highland cow. And in the waters, dolphins regularly pop along to see what’s going on. The RSPB Loch Gruinart Nature Reserve offers the chance to get up close to hundreds of birds. Take a gentle stroll along the shores of Machir Bay or Saligo Bay to get a feel for what island life can be like. If you are a lover of the outdoors, then Islay is the perfect destination for you to enjoy it at its best, at any time of the year.
The finest whisky
Islay is well known for its distilleries, and produces some of the best in the world. Take a tour to see how your favourite drink is made – or tour them all and see if you can find a new favourite! Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and Bowmore are some of the best-known on Islay, and all within easy reach of Peatzeria. Once you’ve had a walk around, remember to visit us for a sit down and delicious meal.
A history to explore
A good way to feel reconnected to the world is by exploring a place’s past. Islay has plenty of that and it’s all on your doorstep. For example, The Kildalton Cross is a stunning early Christian cross dating back to the 8th century and is understood to be one of the best of its kind in the world. Dotted around the island are remnants of crofts, old stone buildings families would live in for generations. After the Highland Clearances of the 1700s and 1800s, they were deserted leaving us only able to imagine what life was like back then.
