Our nice ‘n’ peaty Islay restaurant

Peatzeria, a modern-style bistro restaurant on Islay, opened its doors in April 2017. It has been a superb addition to this beautiful island. So how did it start? Caroline (born in Bowmore) has long wanted to have a modern restaurant on Islay. And now the seed is in full fruition, serving up delicious pizzas and pasta to the local community and holiday-makers on the island.

Our pizzeria ‘Peatzeria’ aims to capture the feeling of a modern, big city-style bistro. It means you have the best of both worlds. A beautiful, peaceful, quaint island steeped in history, then step through our doors, the feeling of a contemporary big city restaurant. It’s like Narnia. Furthermore, we offer a professional, consistent service with friendly staff. A relaxed atmosphere mixed in with great attention to detail creates an embracing environment when you come along and enjoy some great food.

Who is behind the scenes?

Peatzeria is a family-run business. Caroline has always dreamed of a modern, stylish restaurant on Islay. Married to David, they already run Islay Cottages, a successful business on the island.

Caroline’s sister Sharon and husband Paul manage the pizzeria along with other family members. Paul is a well-known chef whose cooking career spans 35 years, covering quality hotels, acclaimed restaurants and gastro pubs across the UK and Ireland. Paul has a great interest in healthy eating programmes in schools where he teaches young people not only how to cook but to cook healthily.

Fortunately, he has now decided to turn his hand to preparing you the finest pizza on Islay. Sharon also has a long background in the hospitality industry and provides the friendliest of welcomes to our guests. Between Sharon and Paul, you are in very good hands.

Inside out

In front of Peatzeria, to the west, lies stunning Lochindaal. What’s more, in the summer months, you can cast your eyes over this view whilst dining in our outside dining area. Uniquely sited in the Episcopalian church building on Shore Street in Bowmore, you will feast surrounded by history. Built in 1903 (evidenced by a piece of signed wall cladding by James McPherson, Joiner April 14^th, 1903, which we discovered) it seats 36 inside and 26 outside. Its contemporary style indulges you in the modern whilst echoing the past. Peat cutting implements, old photographs of Islay characters and life and stunning original murals and paintings create a deep connection with the Island and its history in a contemporary style.
