Ian Rankin Pops in for a Pizza

We were delighted to welcome the award-winning Scottish crime writer Ian Rankin to Peatzeria last week. He popped in for lunch and even tweeted a picture to his followers! It was a pleasure to meet him and we’re so glad he enjoyed his seafood pizza.

Visiting Islay Book Festival

The author was here in Islay for the Islay Book Festival, where he made the announcement that he is writing another Rebus book. This will be the 24th in his series of novels about John Rebus, a fictional detective inspector in Edinburgh. As one of the most popular crime series in the UK, there is much excitement surrounding the next instalment. At the book festival, Rankin hinted that this may be the last …

“I’ve got a contract to write one more novel and my feeling is it will be a Rebus. But will he be alive or dead at the end? I don’t know!”

An Action-Packed First Visit

Ian Rankin was here on Islay for four days with his wife Miranda. It was his first visit to our island, and he managed to cram a lot in.

He made two appearances at the Islay Book Festival. First at the Laphroaig Whisky Distillery, where he discussed the role whisky has played in his work and life. And then at Ramsay Hall in Port Ellen, where he read from his latest bestseller In A House of Lies, and made the announcement about his next Rebus book. He also visited Islay High School, where he spoke to the pupils about reading and writing crime fiction. And let’s not forget, he visited us here at Peatzeria for lunch. Surely, that must have been the highlight!
